Understanding Healthcare Services and Insurance Coverage at UHS

At University Health Services (UHS), many essential services are covered under students' segregated fees, contributing to seamless healthcare access. However, specific services such as immunizations, physical therapy, orthopedic supplies, and third-party physicals incur charges. Typically, payments are necessary at the time of service, but UHS offers billing flexibility when needed.

Students seeking clarity on billing can reach out to UHS during business hours, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., via phone or email. In-person consultations are available Tuesday to Thursday at 333 East Campus Mall. For services incurring costs, students receive a Statement of Service through MyUHS, with payments expected within 30 days to avoid account holds impacting registration and transcript access.

Managing Financial Obligations

UHS provides support for students facing financial difficulties with options like short-term loans. Operating as an out-of-network provider for all except the UW-Madison Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP), UHS advises students to verify insurance coverage prior to service. They do not manage direct insurance billing or benefit assignments; reimbursement is pursued by submitting the UHS Statement of Service to insurance carriers.

SHIP members may enjoy full coverage for various services and immunizations, making it crucial to review plan details. Certain lab tests and X-rays, however, require additional fees. Ensuring clarity on insurance coverage during appointments can prevent unexpected charges.

Vaccinations & Testing

Vaccinations and TB skin tests, not covered by segregated fees, necessitate discussions on insurance coverage. Some vaccinations require multiple doses, which can be administered with supporting documentation, accommodating both UHS and external locations. Fees for antibody titer testing, essential for some vaccinations, add separate costs, urging students to address coverage inquiries during visits.

X-rays stemming from UHS consultations do not incur additional charges for students, further enhancing access to necessary healthcare services. For website feedback or accessibility concerns, UHS communications are readily available to assist.
