Earl Dudley Jr. Appointed Chief Human Resources Officer at Mutual of Omaha
Earl Dudley Jr. has been appointed as the new Chief Human Resources Officer at Mutual of Omaha, effective July 13. This strategic leadership change marks a significant shift for the insurance giant amid its broader organizational restructuring. Dudley brings over 20 years of HR leadership expertise from his tenure at Guardian Life Insurance Company of America, enhancing Mutual of Omaha's HR strategy capabilities.
Assuming his role, Dudley will oversee workforce strategy and organizational development, crucial components given Mutual of Omaha's stature as one of the largest insurance groups in the United States. Following its transition to a mutual holding company structure in April 2026, it ranks as the second-largest U.S. life mutual insurance holding company by gross premium volume, serving over 5.6 million customers and 54,000 employer groups nationwide.
Workforce Challenges Amid Industry Transformation
The appointment comes at a time when the insurance industry is facing major workforce challenges. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects significant retirements by 2026, with about 400,000 insurance workers expected to leave the workforce. Concurrently, the sector is evolving due to AI-driven changes in entry-level roles, with 91% of insurers planning to hire employees proficient in AI technologies—exceeding global trends.
Mutual of Omaha's Chairman and CEO, James Blackledge, highlighted Dudley's role in navigating these challenges. "Earl brings proven insurance industry experience leveraging HR strategy and leading transformation to support business outcomes," Blackledge stated. The addition of Dudley is seen as pivotal for continuing the company's mission in a rapidly changing industry landscape.
