Free Medical Services in Hawaii: Tropic Care Initiative

The Hawaii District Health Office is partnering with the County of Hawaii and state and federal Departments of Defense from June 19 to 28 through the Tropic Care initiative. This program, part of the Innovative Readiness Training, sees military personnel delivering medical, dental, and vision care without charge. Services will be open to all residents regardless of insurance status or citizenship, on a first-come, first-served basis.

Hawaii County Mayor Kimo Alameda expressed gratitude for the Department of Defense's return, emphasizing the importance of free medical services in addressing local healthcare challenges. Hawaii District Health Officer John Kolman noted Tropic Care's crucial role in improving healthcare access for underserved communities, thereby enhancing residents' well-being by meeting unmet medical needs.

Residents attending are advised to prepare for extended wait times by bringing water and snacks. Service locations will operate from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with last check-ins before 4 p.m. Optometry services, including eye exams and prescription glasses, will be available, with glasses ready for collection within one to two days. Tropic Care provides valuable training for military medical personnel, while simultaneously addressing community healthcare needs.
