Key Appointments in Global Insurance Sector Highlight AI and Innovation

Several key appointments have been announced this week across the global insurance sector, focusing on areas such as AI innovation, retirement solutions, and medical underwriting. Prominent companies like the Geneva Association, HUB International, Lumos Insurance, and Hannover Re US are leading these strategic changes.

HUB International has appointed Faizal Mitha as vice president of AI sales innovation, effective July 1. This new role aims to drive business growth by integrating AI-powered tools across HUB's diverse business lines, including commercial and personal lines, private clients, and employee benefits. Mitha will leverage the Claude platform by Anthropic, which HUB is deploying to its 20,000 employees, to enhance adoption and assess its impact on organic growth.

With over 20 years of experience in innovation and digital leadership, Mitha joined HUB through a 2018 acquisition and recently served as chief sales and innovation officer for HUB Canada's employee benefits and retirement segment. His prior ventures include co-founding an insurtech firm in Canada, focusing on AI-driven insurance decision-making and benefits design benchmarking.

Hannover Re US has named Elena Strunk as vice president and medical director, effective immediately. Strunk will focus on modernizing medical assessment practices and enhancing underwriting innovation. She brings a wealth of experience from a decade in academic emergency medicine and positions with two major insurance carriers, contributing to underwriting guidelines and training claims staff.

At Lumos Insurance, Tom Kenny has taken on the role of managing director and senior vice president of global retirement and protection. Kenny will spearhead the establishment of Lumos' reinsurance operations and expand its senior-market business globally. His prior role included leadership in bulk purchase annuity pricing at Partnership Assurance, with experience at companies like MetLife and Munich Re.

Geneva Association elected Lard Friese, CEO of Aegon, as chair following their spring 2026 board meeting. Friese succeeds Lee Yuan Siong, who continues to serve on the board. Additionally, Christoph Jurecka of Munich Re and Tim Sweeney of Liberty Mutual Insurance were elected to the board at the general assembly, further strengthening the organization's governance and strategic direction.
