2025 Success of American Senior Communities: Enhancing Medicare Care

American Senior Communities (ASC) reported a successful 2025, enhancing care quality and advancing initiatives like expanding a provider-led Institutional Special Needs Plan (I-SNP). Operating 114 facilities in Indiana, with 94 dedicated to skilled nursing, ASC has established a robust integrated care network supporting diverse senior living levels. Their approach centers around the "CARE" philosophy: Compassion, Accountability, Relationships, and Excellence, as shared by CEO Steve Van Camp with Skilled Nursing News.

Van Camp emphasized a care companion strategy, ensuring residents have meaningful caregiver connections. This has led to fewer emergency room visits, reduced hospitalizations, and smoother care transitions. In 2025, ASC achieved the second-highest quality rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) among the top 20 skilled nursing providers nationally.

Regulatory Compliance Success

Survey readiness is crucial to ASC’s achievements, boasting a record of deficiency-free surveys in 2026. Van Camp credits this success to consistent and strong team operations and rigorous regulatory compliance practices.

Amid workforce shortages, regulatory demands, and reimbursement challenges, Van Camp stressed the importance of strategic departmental coordination. "Our focus remains on disciplined leadership investment and sustainable decision-making at the building level," he explained.

Navigating Medicare Advantage Complexities

When addressing Medicare Advantage (MA) challenges, like increased administrative tasks and reimbursement variability, ASC has improved internal documentation processes. The firm aims to become a preferred partner in Indiana’s payer networks. Van Camp highlights advocating for better transparency and alignment in MA models to support both providers and patients.

ASC focuses on expanding within Indiana and upgrading properties to benefit residents and staff. Considering new markets, Van Camp mentions expansion hinges on achieving scale and alignment with their proven care model.

ASC’s growth strategy targets broadening its Medicare Advantage Institutional Special Needs Plan format, further communities planned in partnership with Provider Partners. With participation in 15 accountable care organizations, ASC serves over 2,200 members. Van Camp notes efficient cost management operations, running 30% below benchmarks. "Our scale within Indiana provides a foundation to refine and expand this model," he stated, suggesting potential broader replication while maintaining quality and results standards.
