National Collaborative for Crisis Systems Innovation Launched
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), in collaboration with Health Management Associates (HMA), has launched the National Collaborative for Crisis Systems Innovation. This new initiative aims to enhance behavioral health crisis care across the United States by building partnerships among diverse stakeholders in the private and public sectors to develop sustainable systems.
The Collaborative leverages the efforts initiated with the 2022 rollout of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Acting as a central coordination hub, it seeks to align public and private interests to improve the national behavioral health crisis response framework. Its main objective is to establish integrated, person-centered systems designed to serve individuals experiencing mental health crises effectively.
Daniel H. Gillison Jr., NAMI's CEO, emphasized the necessity of compassionate responses during crises, acknowledging the significant advancements made by the 988 initiative. He expressed confidence that the National Collaborative will further these efforts by nurturing community connections. Monica S. Johnson, Managing Director at HMA, highlighted the importance of innovative, coordinated approaches to achieve enduring enhancements in behavioral health crisis care.
The Collaborative aims to support forward-thinking measures and facilitate cross-sector partnerships that develop resilient crisis systems. By engaging industry leaders and experts, the initiative will define critical needs and align goals to fortify crisis care systems. Stakeholders are encouraged to participate actively in the ongoing efforts to address urgent response requirements, while establishing a sustainable future framework.
As the largest grassroots mental health organization in the U.S., NAMI is committed to improving policies and support systems for those affected by mental health issues. Supported by the expertise and resources of HMA, a consultancy focused on healthcare policy and programs, this initiative promises substantial positive impacts nationwide.
