Michigan Medicine and BCBSM Contract Negotiations: Implications for Patients

Michigan Medicine and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) are in critical negotiations over their expiring contract, set to lapse at the end of June. Without a new agreement, patients with BCBS or Blue Care Network (BCN) health insurance may find Michigan Medicine's southeastern locations and doctors out-of-network starting July 1, 2026.

In response, BCBS/BCN is proactively reaching out to patients with continuity of care and care transition letters. To help employers and their staff grasp possible implications if Michigan Medicine exits the network, BCBSM has developed an Employer Toolkit. This resource provides insights into contract negotiations, continuity planning, and additional services.
