Trumbull County Approves New Insurance Coverage and Infrastructure Projects

On April 29, Trumbull County commissioners convened to discuss several initiatives impacting county operations and infrastructure, with insurance coverage among the key topics addressed. Commissioners Denny Malloy, Tony Bernard, and Rick Hernandez approved a new insurance proposal from Rossi Insurance and the Trumbull County Independent Insurance Agencies, part of the County Risk-Sharing Agency Authority. This coverage commenced on the Friday following the meeting and is set to last one year.

The commissioners also finalized an independent contractor agreement with TRC Engineers Inc. This deal grants the company permission to utilize the Trumbull Engineers office space during the ongoing multi-year project for the state Route 45 connector road.

In addition, RT Vernal Paving & Excavating Inc., based in North Lima, received a contract for $452,577.50 for the Logangate Road Project, which aims to resurface the area from U.S. 62 to Loganway Road in Liberty. Plans for improvements across county roads will soon be set in motion as commissioners approved the advertisement for bids for the Trumbull 2026 Countywide Road Improvement initiative. This project is pivotal for the paving programs across several townships, including Bazetta and Brookfield.

An earlier bid for the Trumbull-Ohltown Viaduct Bridge Rehabilitation Project was rejected, prompting commissioners to seek new submissions. Also approved was a temporary cell coverage arrangement involving T-Mobile Central LLC to enhance communication services during the Trumbull County Fair.

Strollo Architects Inc. was allocated $50,164 for its contribution to the Trumbull County Law Library Monumental Steps Replacement project. Personnel changes included the internal transfer of Wayne Court to a sewer line maintenance role, and Stanley Bell was promoted, resulting in a pay adjustment reflective of his new responsibilities.

Contracts awarded to X-Press Underground Inc. totaled over $4.3 million for Phase 2 of the Blueprint Water Regionalization Project, targeting water distribution enhancements in Braceville Township. An adjustment was made to the existing agreement with Burgess & Niple Inc., increasing the budget by $169,680 for water improvements across multiple townships.

The commissioners also adjusted the Senior and Disabled Transportation program budget due to increased demand and funding reductions. On the community front, $6,000 in opioid funds were allocated to upgrade facilities for the Trumbull Action Group Drug Task Force.

Additionally, the commissioners recognized various community service weeks and approved the hiring of Michael Delbono as a deputy dog warden at an hourly rate of $19.92. Lastly, CLR Utilities received a contract to replace a rotting pole at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds.

These decisions illustrate a comprehensive approach to addressing both immediate and long-term operational needs within Trumbull County.
