California REALTORS® Legislative Day Focuses on Housing Policy and Insurance Transparency
The California Association of REALTORS® (C.A.R.) recently convened its 2026 Legislative Day and Spring Board of Directors session, concentrating on collaborative goals among its members. The Sacramento event attracted over 2,000 real estate professionals, providing a platform to engage with state legislators on pressing housing policy matters.
Key legislative priorities included SB 1238, aimed at enhancing HOA governance, and opposition to SB 1406, which proposes increasing liquidated damages for new condo transactions. Members also backed the California Dream for All down payment assistance initiative and supported a significant bond measure championed by Senator Robert Hertzberg to address the state's housing deficiencies.
A panel at the Center for California Real Estate examined strategies to broaden homeownership opportunities, underscoring the importance of industry and governmental collaboration. C.A.R.’s Board tackled issues like taxation and common-interest developments, adopting stances on pivotal ballot initiatives to ensure healthy real estate market conditions.
Additionally, the Board assessed interim reports from task forces dealing with insurance transparency in homeowners associations and regulatory hurdles. Recommendations highlighted the need for increased member involvement in insurance decisions and advocated for legislative measures to make insurance information more accessible to property owners.
The MLS Policy Committee focused on data transparency and consumer privacy, proposing updates to MLS rules to improve data accuracy and tackle issues such as seller concessions and listing photo confidentiality. These initiatives align with C.A.R.’s commitment to modernize MLS policies, enhancing the quality of service REALTORS® offer.
As C.A.R. announces its officer nominations for the upcoming year, the association plans to maintain engagement with members on various industry initiatives. It remains dedicated to expanding market access and creating an environment that fosters professional growth in real estate through strategic outreach, advocacy, and member support activities.
