HHS Endorses 2026 Report on Religious Freedom and Conscience Rights

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has endorsed the release of the 2026 Report by the Task Force to Eradicate Anti-Christian Bias from the Department of Justice. This report highlights policies previously seen as burdensome to religious freedom, particularly impacting Christians. It outlines corrective measures initiated by HHS under Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., aligning with efforts to fortify religious liberty.

Secretary Kennedy emphasized the administration's dedication to protecting faith in professional settings, stating, “Federal policy treated conscience rights as optional. We are changing that.” Admiral Brian Christine, MD, reinforced that government employees and healthcare providers should not disregard their religious beliefs. The HHS is committed to enforcing laws protecting religious freedom and ensuring equitable rights for people of faith.

Under the leadership of Director Paula M. Stannard, the HHS Office for Civil Rights (OCR) is committed to enforcing conscience protection laws. Her office will review past guidance and bolster investigative actions to uphold religious and conscience rights. The HHS has compiled a detailed account of its policy revisions, protecting these rights more robustly, with the report available on the Department of Justice's website. For updates, stakeholders are encouraged to follow HHS OCR on social media and subscribe to email notifications.
