Nicholas Mocciolo Appointed Chief Investment Officer at Symetra Financial
Symetra Financial Corporation has appointed Nicholas Mocciolo as its new chief investment officer, reinforcing its executive team with robust industry expertise. Previously serving as interim co-president and senior managing director at Symetra Investment Management (SIM), Mocciolo is now tasked with supervising general account portfolios for Symetra Life Insurance Company and its affiliates. Reporting directly to Tommie Brooks, Symetra's executive vice president and chief financial officer, Mocciolo's appointment is pivotal for the company's investment strategy.
Symetra Investment Management, a registered investment adviser, oversaw more than $88 billion in assets for Symetra Financial and affiliated Sumitomo Life accounts. Since joining Symetra in 2015 from White Mountains Advisors, LLC, Mocciolo has brought considerable experience in derivatives and asset management, solidified by his previous leadership role at Hartford Investment Management Company. CFO Tommie Brooks praised Mocciolo for his pivotal role in establishing SIM in 2019 and lauded his successful collaboration with Sumitomo Life, emphasizing his integral contribution to expanding Symetra's investment management operations in the U.S.
Educationally, Mocciolo holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics and a master's in applied mathematics from the University of Connecticut, alongside a master’s in operations research from Columbia University. His credentials as a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a Financial Risk Manager underscore his proficiency in risk and investment management. Symetra Financial, headquartered in Bellevue, Washington, has been providing financial services since 1957, specializing in employee benefits, annuities, and life insurance. Its investment arm, Symetra Investment Management, founded in 2019 and based in Farmington, Connecticut, employs approximately 150 people and is dedicated to managing significant institutional investment portfolios.
