Pennsylvania Insurance Department Recovers Over $33 Million in Benefits

The Pennsylvania Insurance Department (PID) has achieved significant success in helping state residents recover lost life insurance benefits and annuities. Through the National Association of Insurance Commissioners' (NAIC) Life Insurance Policy Locator service, more than $33 million has been recovered for over 1,600 individuals in Pennsylvania since January 1. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to ensure residents receive their rightful benefits.

Insurance Commissioner Michael Humphreys highlighted the department's commitment to assisting consumers, emphasizing the accessibility of the life insurance locator tool. Humphreys urged, "We encourage any Pennsylvanian who believes they are a beneficiary of a lost life insurance policy to contact PID so that we can submit your information into the database."

The PID directs unaware residents to the locator tool and assists with information submission when necessary. Since the start of the year, over 2,500 requests have been submitted, resulting in 1,615 successful matches and the recovery of $33.5 million in life insurance and annuity benefits. Compared to 2025, the PID supported nearly 4,700 residents in reclaiming over $116 million.

Insurance Locator Service and Requests

All insurance companies with life policies in Pennsylvania are required to participate in this service. Beneficiaries, executors, or legal representatives of a decedent are encouraged to submit a search request. Upon submission, the NAIC instructs participating companies to investigate their records for relevant policies. If a policy is located and the requester is confirmed as the beneficiary, the insurance company will directly reach out to them.
