PA CareKit Launches to Support Caregivers in Pennsylvania

The Pennsylvania Department of Aging has launched the PA CareKit to assist the state's 2.4 million unpaid caregivers in managing stress and emphasizing their well-being. This initiative, rolled out during Stress Awareness Month, is aimed at supporting family caregivers in maintaining their health while attending to others' needs.

The PA CareKit offers valuable resources that help caregivers learn, plan, and take necessary respite breaks. Secretary of Aging Jason Kavulich highlighted the significance of self-care, acknowledging the demanding nature of caregiving. “Caregiving can be rewarding but exceptionally stressful. The PA CareKit includes self-care resources to help caregivers manage their responsibilities effectively,” remarked Secretary Kavulich.

Focusing on physical, mental, and emotional well-being, the self-care segment of the PA CareKit provides guidance, including respite care options and access to support groups. This aligns with Governor Josh Shapiro's strategic plan, Aging Our Way, PA, dedicated to enhancing services for older adults in Pennsylvania. The initiative is further supported by the governor’s proposed 2026-27 budget, which allocates a $3 million investment to bolster these efforts.

Since its inception in May 2025, the PA CareKit has supported over 315,000 individuals, showcasing its comprehensive reach and impact. Esteemed organizations such as the National Alliance for Caregiving have recognized the CareKit for its robust resources that aid families in navigating caregiving challenges.
