Impact of Federal Health Policy Changes on Medicaid and ACA

A series of events organized by Protect Our Care will be held across Michigan, New York, and North Carolina to address the repercussions of recent federal health policy changes. These gatherings aim to unite health care leaders, advocates, and public officials to discuss the impact of funding cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act. The cuts, linked to financial policies favoring high-income entities, are expected to present substantial operational challenges for healthcare providers.

The anticipated results include potential closures and service reductions at over 800 medical facilities including hospitals and nursing homes, particularly impacting rural areas where residents may face increased travel distances for medical services. Communities express growing concerns over the adequacy of maternity care and emergency services. In February alone, approximately 28,000 healthcare professionals lost their positions, with over 150,000 more at risk nationwide due to escalating operational costs.
