Marsh McLennan Agency's Strategic Acquisition of Seitz Insurance Enhances Offerings
Marsh McLennan Agency (MMA) has announced its strategic acquisition of Seitz Insurance, an independent agency headquartered in Sidney, Montana. This acquisition amplifies MMA's existing network across central and western Montana, significantly enhancing their offerings in the agriculture, crop, and energy insurance sectors.
MMA, a division of Marsh, has pursued active expansion through acquisitions, with Seitz being the latest in over 60 transactions completed since 2009, according to Tracxn. One of MMA's notable acquisitions occurred in 2024 with McGriff Insurance Services for $7.75 billion, boosting MMA's revenue by $1.3 billion and bringing the agency's pro forma total revenue near $5 billion.
Earlier this year, MMA also acquired Robinson & Son LLC, a New York-based firm specializing in marine insurance. This acquisition strategy focuses on integrating regional agencies with specific expertise, reinforcing MMA's core competencies rather than developing new specializations independently.
Seitz Insurance, founded in 1961, serves eastern Montana, a region deeply rooted in the agriculture and energy industries. The US Department of Agriculture ranks Montana just behind Texas in farmland acreage, with significant wheat exports. Additionally, the Bakken Formation in the Williston Basin is the primary source of Montana's crude oil production, as noted by the US Energy Information Administration.
A study by PwC for the American Petroleum Institute highlighted Montana's oil and gas sector's support of nearly 57,000 jobs and a $7 billion contribution to the state's economy in 2021. However, the sector faces risks from severe weather, exemplified by a 2021 drought causing over $500 million in crop losses.
Sarah Walsh, CEO of MMA's Northwest region, praised Seitz Insurance as "a household name," emphasizing that this acquisition strengthens their service capabilities in eastern Montana. In 2023, Seitz expanded its footprint by acquiring Bishop Insurance Services in the Flathead and Mission Valley areas.
Post-acquisition, all Seitz employees, including co-owners David Seitz and Camila Skinner, will integrate into Marsh McLennan Agency, maintaining operations from their current locations. David Seitz expressed enthusiasm, noting that joining MMA enables the agency to uphold its client commitment while offering growth opportunities for its team.
