Supreme Court Reviews ACA Preventive Care Provision Amid HHS Budget Cuts
The U.S. Supreme Court appears inclined to uphold a key provision of the Affordable Care Act that mandates preventive care coverage. Concurrently, the federal administration has proposed a $40 billion budget reduction for the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), aiming to consolidate various health programs into a new entity called the Administration for a Healthy America (AHA).
Proposed cuts impact programs related to gun violence, youth violence prevention, minority health, and rural health initiatives, pending Congressional approval. Additionally, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced restrictions on funding universities with diversity, equity, and inclusion programs or involved in certain boycott activities.
