Remembering Marvin Feldman: A Legacy in Life Insurance
Marvin Feldman, a notable figure in the life insurance sector and former president of the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT), passed away on March 4 in Palm Harbor, Florida, at 80. Feldman's career, spanning nearly six decades, was dedicated to bridging the life insurance coverage gap in the United States. This gap impacts millions of Americans who remain uninsured or underinsured, a challenge Feldman continuously worked to address.
Feldman kick-started his career with New York Life while still a senior at Ohio State University. After gaining initial field experience, he moved into New York Life's management program. By 1974, he was a partner in the Feldman Agency and president of Fremar Financial Group. He later established and led Feldman Financial Group, ending his career as president of the firm in Florida and CEO of the LIFE Foundation in Washington, D.C., by 2020.
Feldman was a member of the MDRT for over 50 years, including serving as its president in 2002 and achieving the Top of the Table status for over four decades. He further contributed as a chair on New York Life’s Agents Advisory Council and was a member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA).
His commitment to consumer education in the insurance industry was highlighted through his work at the Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education, now Life Happens. Under his leadership, initiatives such as Life Insurance Awareness Month—established in 2003—played a crucial role in promoting industry-backed insurance awareness.
Apart from his professional achievements, Feldman was actively involved in community service. He held leadership positions at East Liverpool Temple Beth Shalom and East Liverpool City Hospital in Ohio. He was instrumental in founding 1st National Community Bank in East Liverpool and supported various philanthropic endeavors focused on education and health organizations.
Kevin Mayeux, CEO of NAIFA, remarked on Feldman’s passing, acknowledging his commitment to advancing the life insurance industry and his pivotal role in developing Life Happens. Feldman's leadership and service within the industry continue to inspire financial professionals. He is survived by his wife Vicki, their two daughters, sons-in-law, and four grandchildren.
