Universal Insurance Co. Rebrands as One Alliance North America Insurance Co.
One year after its acquisition by a newly formed holding company, Universal Insurance Co. of North America announced a rebranding to One Alliance North America Insurance Co. The insurer, with offices in Sarasota and Orlando, Florida, and Fort Worth, Texas, operates under the leadership of President Miguel Barrales, while Rafael Cedeño Camacho serves as Chairman and CEO. This branding shift reflects the company's extensive reach across various states and underscores its financial stability and unified vision within the One Alliance group.
Originally formed in 2003, the company has been endorsed by FAIA Member Services since 2015. By late 2025, it maintained around 20,000 personal residential policies in Florida, despite clearance to assume 10,000 policies from Citizens Property Insurance Corp., the state-backed insurer. This marks a decrease from 2021, where it held approximately 57,000 policies before reducing exposure due to litigation-related losses in 2019 and 2020. Last summer, AM Best rated the financial strength of Universal North America with a "B-Fair," highlighting concerns about the stability of its new parent company, 5B Alliance, an investment entity led by Cedeño, which includes other parts of the One Alliance group operating in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.
Currently, the company is active in multiple states including Florida, Texas, and California. As part of its strategic expansion, it plans to enhance its insurance offerings in 2023, encompassing auto, flood, and commercial policies. The name change also seeks to eliminate confusion with Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Co., a prominent insurer in the area with no connection to One Alliance.
