Wendy Arnone Appointed Chair of CMTA Board to Advance CMT Research

Wendy Arnone has been named the new chair of the Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association (CMTA) board, succeeding Gilles Bouchard, who continues as a board member after leading since 2016. Arnone’s extensive background in healthcare and insurance includes roles at UnitedHealthcare, Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, and HealthNow New York Inc. As CEO of UnitedHealthcare's West Region, she oversaw operations across 13 states, serving over three million members. Having joined the CMTA board in 2024, Arnone brings expertise in strategic governance and organizational planning.

Sue Bruhn, PhD, CMTA CEO, highlighted the leadership transition, praising Bouchard’s contribution to making CMTA a leader in Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) research. She noted the expansion of their research program across all drug development phases. “Wendy, like Gilles, offers impressive business experience and is committed to advancing CMT treatments. Her leadership will be invaluable as board chair, and we appreciate Gilles's ongoing commitment to CMTA,” Bruhn stated.

Reflecting on his tenure, Bouchard highlighted the evolution of CMT research into a dynamic global ecosystem, expressing pride in the organization’s growth. He remains confident in the vision of a world without CMT. Arnone expressed gratitude for Bouchard’s strategic influence and is eager to maintain the momentum, aiming to further CMTA's mission. The CMTA, a leader in CMT research funding, has invested over $33 million since 2008 in developing new treatments through its STAR program, dedicated to improving lives affected by these hereditary neuropathies.
