Cost-Effective Health Insurance Proposals for Adams County
Fred Parker, representing Byrne Insurance Agency, recently presented two proposals to the Adams County Board of Supervisors for renewing employee health insurance coverage. Both options offer significant reductions in the county's current insurance expenses, aligning with the industry's focus on cost-effective risk management and regulatory compliance.
County Attorney Scott Slover attributes these cost reductions to a decrease in claims filed by county employees over the past year. Some high-claim individuals have shifted from the county's standard health coverage to the Samaritan Fund—a special plan designed for handling larger claims. This strategic approach to underwriting and claims management optimizes both coverage and expenses for the county.
Parker noted, "Currently, we have three people on the Samaritan Fund," with claims from these individuals totaling $1.6 million. This transition benefits both the county and the high-claim individuals by further optimizing costs and coverage. "Some board members may recall there were employees with claims reaching $800,000 annually. Now, those employees have been moved to the Samaritan program, enhancing our payer-provider collaboration," Parker stated.
Review and Decision Timeline
District 4 Supervisor Ricky Gray asked about the decision timeline, stressing the importance of thorough review before voting. Parker confirmed that there would be a review period before the board's next meeting on Monday, March 2, at 9 a.m. at the board offices on 314 State St., ensuring adequate time for evaluating the proposals within regulatory compliance requirements.
