SterlingRisk Expands Transportation Insurance Capabilities Through Acquisition

SterlingRisk, a leading insurance brokerage headquartered in Woodbury, New York, has strategically expanded its industry-specific capabilities by acquiring ASZ International, a specialized transportation insurance agency. This acquisition is part of SterlingRisk's efforts to deepen its niche market expertise, enhancing its portfolio with AI-driven risk management and underwriting solutions tailored for transportation clients.

Expanding Industry Expertise

ASZ International, established in 2015 by industry veteran Marc Zettl, operates out of Valhalla, New York, with burgeoning operations in Florida and other U.S. markets. Marc Zettl, bringing over two decades of experience in transportation insurance, will become the President of SterlingRisk’s transportation vertical. Chris Zettl joins as an account specialist, enriching the team with valuable domain knowledge in transportation insurance underwriting and claims processing.

Strategic Acquisitions and Market Positioning

This transaction marks SterlingRisk's third strategic acquisition in recent years, emphasizing its commitment to regulatory compliance and market expansion. The firm had previously acquired Worldwide Insurance Group in 2023, specializing in yacht insurance, and obtained professional liability insurance capabilities through a deal with Aon in 2019. SterlingRisk employs over 230 professionals across key states, including New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida, and California.

Broadened Risk Management Services

David Sterling, CEO of SterlingRisk, highlighted that this acquisition significantly bolsters the brokerage’s capabilities in transportation insurance, covering sectors such as trucking, railroads, aviation, and ocean cargo. Clients will benefit from increased access to regional and national risk management services, ensuring that SterlingRisk continues to meet stringent regulatory compliance requirements while offering comprehensive solutions to commercial fleet operators.

SterlingRisk remains focused on maintaining its client-oriented service approach whilst enhancing its vertical-specific expertise. The integration of ASZ International aligns with SterlingRisk's initiative to strengthen industry-specific service offerings for transportation-related entities like specialty vehicles and freight forwarders, cementing its position as a leader in the insurance sector.
