Study Shows MA Beneficiaries Underutilize Supplemental Benefits

A recent study published in Jama Network Open reveals that Medicare Advantage (MA) beneficiaries typically do not utilize supplemental benefits such as vision, hearing, and dental care at a higher rate than those on traditional Medicare. Despite MA plans generally offering enhanced coverage, the findings show that levels of awareness and cost-sharing constraints may influence the lower usage rates of these supplemental benefits. The study highlights that 54% of MA enrollees were unaware of their additional benefits, and MA plans cover only about a quarter of the costs associated with these services. Beneficiaries are encouraged to check their eligibility and understand the potential savings from these supplementary offerings.
