Independent Agents Prioritize Claims and Tech in Carrier Relationships

A recent survey by insurtech Vertafore reveals that independent agents prioritize claims, communication, and technology when working with insurance carriers. Nearly 1,300 insurance professionals, including agency owners and account managers, participated in the survey, highlighting the importance of strong relationships between agents and carriers.

The survey found that most agents regularly work with 11-20 carriers, and responsiveness of underwriting emerged as a crucial factor in securing more business, following competitive products and pricing. Significant attention was also given to claims service, with 75% of respondents deeming it essential for placing business with a particular carrier, while personal relationships ranked second in importance.

Additionally, there is a strong demand for carriers to enhance their onboarding processes and technology, particularly in terms of usability and efficiency. Key findings also emphasized the need for better compensation transparency and advanced technology tools to streamline agent-carrier interactions, ultimately improving the agent experience and operational outcomes.
