Texas Sees Major Hail Increase; Insurance Costs Surge
The U.S. has faced numerous severe weather events in recent years, including hurricanes, tornadoes, and wildfires, all contributing to rising insurance costs. A recent study by Insurify highlights the growing concern of hail damage across various states. Texas has experienced a significant increase in hail events from 2022 to 2024, with a 93% rise in major hail occurrences and a staggering 160% increase in larger hail events of 2 inches or more. In 2024 alone, Texas recorded 878 severe hailstorms, with Dallas being the city most at risk for such weather hazards.
Due to these weather patterns, Texas residents are facing the fourth-highest homeowners insurance premiums in the nation, averaging $4,789 per year. This figure represents an 85% increase over the national average of $2,584, further illustrating the impact of severe weather on insurance costs. The increasing frequency and severity of hailstorms are reshaping the insurance landscape, prompting homeowners to reconsider their policies and the protection they need against such weather-related damages.
