Coastal Family Health Center Opens Evening Clinic Amid ACA Subsidy Changes

Coastal Family Health Center has launched a new convenient care clinic in Moss Point, Mississippi, aimed at providing accessible healthcare beyond standard business hours. This clinic offers medical services during evenings and weekends, accommodating working individuals who require care for issues like hypertension, minor illnesses, and chronic disease management. The center operates 14 clinics across the Gulf Coast, focusing on serving historically underserved populations with fully staffed facilities and essential healthcare resources. The introduction of this new clinic occurs amid anticipated changes to Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies, which are set to expire soon. This expiration is expected to increase insurance premiums, potentially leading to a rise in uninsured individuals seeking community-based healthcare services. According to the Mississippi Insurance Department, 338,000 residents currently have health insurance through the ACA marketplace, but many may face difficult coverage decisions in the upcoming year. Healthcare providers, including those at St. Vincent de Paul Community Pharmacy, are preparing for a surge in patients needing cost-effective care. The Moss Point clinic operates Monday through Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon, offering walk-in and appointment-based services for non-emergency medical needs such as immunizations and check-ups. The center emphasizes its long-standing commitment to serving its community regardless of changes in health insurance policy, highlighting its role as a consistent healthcare provider before and after ACA reforms.
