Nebraska Collects $200K from Gambling Winnings for Child Support Arrears

Nebraska's Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has successfully collected over $200,000 from gambling winnings to address child support arrears within the first three months of implementing the Gambling Winnings Setoff for Outstanding Debt Act. Enacted through Legislative Bill 1317 and effective from September 2, 2025, the law mandates gaming operators to withhold a portion of winnings from individuals with unpaid state debts and transfer these funds to the Department of Revenue. Subsequently, the collected amounts are allocated across multiple state agencies including DHHS, Department of Labor, and DMV, with DHHS receiving over $215,000 for the Child Support Enforcement Program.
