Oregon Homecare Workers Secure Wage Increases and Enhanced Benefits in New Contract
The SEIU Local 503 union has ratified a new collective bargaining agreement with the Oregon Home Care Commission for 2025-2027, featuring key wage increases and benefit enhancements for homecare workers starting January 1, 2026. Workers will receive a $1.25 hourly wage increase, aiming to ensure that by mid-2027, most providers earn at least $25 per hour, with experienced staff reaching up to $27. Additionally, the mileage reimbursement rate will increase to $0.70 per mile, aligning with the federal standard, reducing out-of-pocket expenses for homecare workers who travel extensively. The contract also preserves wage and hour levels amid concerns about potential federal funding cuts impacting the homecare sector. Holiday pay provisions have expanded to include Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Juneteenth, and Veterans Day, paying time and a half for authorized hours worked on these days. Paid holidays provide additional financial security to workers who support residents in Oregon. By the end of 2025, Oregon will shift to an electronic remittance advice system, though workers can opt to continue receiving paper statements by following a clear opt-in process communicated by the State and SEIU Local 503. This modernization effort aims to streamline payment communications and improve administrative efficiency. Members of SEIU Local 503 are automatically enrolled in a complimentary $2,500 life insurance policy effective after their first dues payment, with recommendations to designate beneficiaries to ensure coverage benefits extend to family in the event of a member’s passing. The union also encourages members to utilize political tax credits through contributions to their Political Action Committee (CAPE) to support union-backed candidates. Additional member benefits include access to a Columbia Sportswear employee store discount in December, emphasizing SEIU’s commitment to member welfare beyond wages and contract stipulations. Regular updates and regional meetings promote ongoing member engagement and collective advocacy efforts.
