Taunton to Review Health Insurance Benefits for Part-Time Elected Officials Amid Rising Costs

In 2013, the state advised Taunton to reassess its policy of extending health insurance benefits to part-time elected officials, including city councilors. Due to increasing health insurance expenses impacting the city's finances, the current administration led by Mayor Shaunna O'Connell plans to review this policy. Presently, only three part-time elected officials are enrolled in the city's health insurance plan, and the finance team is analyzing the cost implications, which may lead to a proposal to discontinue the benefit for future part-time officials.
