Teen Driver Fatal Crashes Rise; Florida Ranked 7th Highest Risk State in 2023

A recent study by Bumper highlights a significant increase in teen driver fatalities on U.S. roads, with a 25% rise since 2013. Florida ranks seventh nationally in teen fatal crash risk, reporting a rate of 60.61 deaths per 100,000 licensed young drivers in 2023, surpassing the national average of 42.4. The study utilizes data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and state licensing records to analyze fatal crash rates among drivers aged 15 to 20. The analysis also reveals gender disparities, noting that young male drivers face nearly three times higher fatality rates than females. Kentucky has the highest teen fatal crash risk, while New Hampshire has the lowest.
