Violent Incidents Spur Salary Discussions for Indian River Deputies

Recently, three law enforcement officers on the Treasure Coast have been injured by gunfire, including the fatal shooting of Sgt. Terri Sweeting-Mashkow. This increase in violent incidents occurs as Indian River County Sheriff Eric Flowers requests a substantial raise for deputy salaries. However, the county commissioners, who control the sheriff's budget, have not approved the proposed salary increases, leading to ongoing budgetary disputes.
