Georgia Man Sentenced for $7.2M Medicare Genetic Testing Fraud Scheme
A Georgia man, Patrick C. Moore Jr., has been sentenced to 46 months in federal prison and ordered to pay over $7.2 million in restitution for his role in a Medicare fraud conspiracy involving unnecessary genetic tests. Moore orchestrated a scheme where Medicare beneficiaries were targeted for genetic tests that were not medically necessary, resulting in improper claims amounting to about $24 million billed to Medicare. Moore received approximately $4.3 million in kickbacks and used sham invoices to conceal the illegal payments, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
