Westfield Names Lloyd Scholz Enterprise CIO to Drive Technology Strategy
Westfield, a U.S.-based property and casualty insurance company, has appointed Lloyd Scholz as its Enterprise Chief Information Officer (CIO). Scholz will report directly to the CEO and Board Chair and is tasked with developing and executing a business-driven technology strategy to support Westfield's growth, diversification, and global expansion. His responsibilities include advancing technology, data, and analytics capabilities across Westfield's global P&C operations. Scholz brings over 25 years of technology leadership experience in financial services and insurance. His previous role as Senior Managing Director and CTO at Markel involved leading global teams and spearheading modernization initiatives in enterprise architecture, cloud engineering, software development, data and AI strategy, as well as agile delivery. Before Markel, Scholz held progressive leadership roles at Capital One focused on data engineering, analytics, cloud strategy, and technology transformation. The creation of the Enterprise CIO role and Scholz's appointment highlight Westfield's strategic emphasis on leveraging modern platforms and data-driven approaches to enhance business integration and innovation. This move is aligned with the company's ambitions to strengthen technology leadership amid ongoing international expansion and growth. Westfield, established in 1848, operates as a mutual insurance company with over 4,000 employees, managing more than $11 billion in assets and revenues exceeding $4 billion. It offers a broad portfolio of commercial, personal, surety, and specialty lines through independent agents in the U.S. and specialty products via Lloyd's of London Syndicate 1200. Scholz's leadership is expected to accelerate Westfield's technology-driven initiatives and reinforce its competitive position in the global property and casualty market. This strategic hire underscores the increasing importance of enterprise technology strategies in the P&C insurance sector, particularly in areas such as cloud modernization, AI analytics, and agile methodologies that support business scalability and regulatory compliance. Westfield’s focus on integrating technology as a strategic business partner reflects wider industry trends toward digital transformation and data-centric risk management.
