HHS-OIG Flags $39.6M in Podiatry E/M Billing for CMS Oversight
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (HHS-OIG) has identified potential improper payments related to podiatrists' billing of Evaluation and Management (E/M) services under modifier 25. During the audit period, these improper payments were estimated at $39.6 million. The HHS-OIG recommended that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) collaborate with Medicare Administrative Contractors to evaluate the need for increased oversight.
