Legislation Introduced to Establish ACA Exchange in Puerto Rico
Congressman Darren Soto and Puerto Rico Resident Commissioner Pablo José Hernández introduced the Puerto Rico Affordable Care Act (PRACA) legislation to establish an Affordable Care Act exchange in Puerto Rico, aligning the territory's healthcare access with that of the 50 states and Washington, D.C. Currently, Puerto Rico's healthcare exchange lacks ACA equivalency, missing tiered plan options like Bronze, Silver, and Gold, as well as tax premiums and cost-sharing reductions. This legislation aims to extend federal healthcare support to Puerto Rico, enabling expanded coverage, reduced costs, and strengthened healthcare networks, which is crucial given the island's high poverty rate and limited access to healthcare resources.
