Michigan Pharmacist Sentenced for $4M Medicare Fraud Scheme
A Michigan pharmacist, Nabil Fakih, was sentenced to 46 months in federal prison for orchestrating a scheme that defrauded Medicare of $4 million by submitting fraudulent claims for expensive drug prescriptions that were never dispensed. The scheme, conducted between 2011 and 2017, involved billing Medicare for high-cost medications such as blood thinners and lung inhalers that Fakih never stocked or provided to patients. Fakih was also ordered to pay $4 million in restitution, an additional $426,000, and to forfeit four real estate properties as part of the penalties.
