HHS-OIG Recommends CMS Recover Overpayments and Improve Billing Controls

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (HHS-OIG) has issued a report with three key recommendations directed at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The recommendations include recovering approximately $3 million in estimated overpayments within a four-year reopening period, enhancing claim reviews, and implementing system edits to prevent incorrect service billing. CMS agreed with recovering overpayments and implementing system edits but did not fully agree to increase claim reviews.
