Federal Prison Sentence for Medicaid Fraud Scheme Over $1M in Washington State
Mohammed Asif, owner and director of American Labworks LLC in Everett, Washington, was sentenced to two years in federal prison for orchestrating a Medicare fraud scheme involving over $1 million in false claims. The scheme involved submitting fraudulent Medicare claims for COVID-19 and other respiratory tests that were never ordered or performed, resulting in over $8.7 million billed and $1.1 million paid from April to December 2024. Asif has been ordered to pay restitution exceeding $1.17 million and is expected to be deported after serving his sentence. Investigations revealed billing irregularities including charges for tests billed posthumously, with financial records showing significant withdrawals before Asif's temporary departure from the U.S. Authorities continue to investigate additional potential collaborators in the fraud.
