Symetra Marks 5 Years of Social Impact with $1M in Grants to Nonprofits
Symetra Life Insurance Company is marking the fifth anniversary of its corporate giving initiative, 'Symetra Empowers Communities', by awarding $1 million in grants to 19 nonprofit organizations nationally and locally in the Puget Sound area. Since its launch in 2020, the program has become a central component of Symetra's broader social impact efforts, focusing on enhancing economic mobility for underserved groups, including women, youth, and students, as well as addressing housing affordability and homelessness. The current round of funding includes one-time grants ranging from $25,000 to $50,000 and multi-year commitments between $50,000 and $100,000 for 2025 through 2027/8. Grant recipients are engaged in various initiatives such as entrepreneurship, leadership training, education access for marginalized groups, and STEAM learning opportunities. The program has invested nearly $13 million since inception through direct grants, employee contributions, and matching funds, working closely with community partners and civic organizations across multiple states including Washington, Iowa, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. Symetra Life Insurance Company operates as a subsidiary of Symetra Financial Corporation, providing employee benefits, annuities, and life insurance nationwide.
