eHealth Survey: Majority Satisfied with 2026 Health Insurance Options Amid Cost Concerns
A recent survey by eHealth reveals that 77% of Americans reviewing their 2026 health insurance options are satisfied with their coverage, with Medicare beneficiaries (86%) and those with employer-sponsored plans (81%) showing the highest satisfaction levels. However, over half of respondents, particularly 79% of Affordable Care Act (ACA) enrollees, express surprise at the rise in monthly premium costs. The survey also highlights strong support for the Trump administration's health policies, with 57% of Americans feeling their insurance needs are prioritized, and 59% backing the administration's initiative to offer GLP-1 drugs for weight loss at discounted prices starting next year. A notable 33% of Americans intend to use these drugs once affordable options become available, many willing to pay $100 or more monthly. In terms of Medicare Advantage trends, eHealth's analysis shows an 8% increase in average out-of-pocket maximums for 2026 plans, rising to $6,240, while deductibles slightly decreased by 2.8%, averaging $4,105. Despite these cost adjustments, 86% of selected plans feature $0 monthly premiums, consistent with prior years, indicating stable premium pricing. The survey also underscores the growing interest in AI technologies for health insurance selection, with 57% of Americans anticipating AI will ease the process of finding optimal coverage. Moreover, 56% would utilize AI tools currently if it meant saving time and money, particularly among ACA enrollees (76%) and Medicare or employer-based plan holders (63%). These findings emphasize the complexity consumers face during open enrollment, highlighting the importance of thorough plan comparisons to balance cost, coverage benefits, and changing policy landscapes. Insurers and policymakers can glean insights into consumer priorities regarding affordability, drug pricing, and technology integration to enhance health insurance offerings.
