Overview of Medicare NCCI Medically Unlikely Edits for Part B Claims

The National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) Medically Unlikely Edits (MUEs) are regulatory tools implemented by Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) to minimize improper payments in Medicare Part B claims. An MUE defines the maximum units of service allowable for a specific HCPCS/CPT code reported by the same provider for the same beneficiary on a single date of service. While most MUE values are publicly available on CMS's website, certain values remain confidential but are subject to periodic updates.
